New ePaper: United Nations Environment Programme 50th Anniversary

Anniversaries occasionally do produce new opportunities. In 2022, we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the „United Nations Environment Programme“.

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is a subsidiary body of the UN General Assembly. It was founded in 1972 and is based in Nairobi (Kenya). UNEP identifies and analyzes environmental problems, works out principles of environmental protection, develops regional environmental protection programmes and supports developing countries in setting up national environmental protection programmes. The main topics are climate change, disasters and conflicts, ecosystem management, environmental management, chemicals and waste, resource efficiency and environmental monitoring.  Every two years, UNEP publishes a report on the world environmental situation.

Prof. Dr. Udo E. Simonis, long-time board member of the Deutsche Umweltstiftung, takes a critical view on the impact of UNEP on preventing further environmental decline of the global ecosystems.
